The Chonta Condor Viewpoint is another place in Peru where you can observe Andean condors in their natural habitat. It is located in the Cusco region, near the town of Chonta, in the area of the Cordillera de Vilcabamba.
The Chonta Condor Viewpoint is less known than the Colca Canyon Condor Viewpoint, but offers a unique and less crowded experience to observe these majestic birds in flight.
The journey to the Chonta Condor Viewpoint is an experience in itself, as you cross the Sacred Valley of the Incas and observe impressive Andean landscapes. Once in Chonta, you will hike for about an hour to the viewpoint, where you can enjoy spectacular views of the condors in flight. DETAILED ITINERARY
DAY 1 VIEWPOINT OF CONDORS CHONTA
- The tour starts early in the morning, with a transfer from the hotel in Cusco to Chonta, located about 3 hours away by car.
- At 09:30 hrs. Visit the archaeological site of Killarumiyoc, In the Inka period Killarumiyoq was known as the valley of Ichupampa or Yahuarpampa, currently recognized as Killarumiyoq (Pillcocancha) by the sculpture carved in stone in the shape of a crescent or mama killa and accounting of the lunar phases of the year.
- Then we will arrive to the town of Limatambo and visit to Tarawasi (optional).
- Travel by tourist transport to the community of Chonta, once in Chonta, a walk of about an hour to the Mirador de Condores, while enjoying the panoramic views of the valleys and mountains of the area.
- At the Chonta Condor Viewpoint, you will enjoy the impressive view of the Andean condors flying in their natural habitat. The guide will provide information about these majestic birds and their characteristics.
- After the condor watching, you will hike back to Chonta. In Chonta, you can enjoy a typical lunch in a local restaurant.
- After lunch, you will start the return trip to Cusco, with a stop along the way to visit archaeological sites or Andean villages (optional).
