Frequently Asked Questions from Travelers
On a Walking Tour in Cusco, the places you will visit are:
- Plaza de Armas: It is the center of the city and has impressive colonial buildings, such as the Cathedral of Cusco and the Church of La Compañía.
- Barrio de San Blas: This is an artistic neighborhood of Cusco that features cobblestone streets and white houses with red roofs. It is a popular place for artists and artisans, and has workshops and art galleries.
- Sacsayhuaman Ruins: These ruins are an impressive Inca archaeological complex with huge stone walls that appear to have been carved with millimetric precision. It is a place of great historical and cultural importance.
- Mirador de San Cristobal: This is an observation point located on top of a hill, from where you can enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view of the city of Cusco and its surroundings. It is a popular place to take pictures and appreciate the natural beauty of the city and its landscapes.
You will also visit places like the Qantupata neighborhood, 7 borreguitos street, Manco Capac Palace, South American Camelids and the 12 angles stone.
The best time to do a Walking Tour in Cusco is during the dry season, which runs from April to October. During this period, the chances of rain are lower and temperatures are warmer and more pleasant for walking. Also, during the dry season, skies are usually clearer, which means you are more likely to have clear views of the beautiful scenery in and around the city.
What is the San Cristóbal lookout point like?
The Mirador de San Cristobal is one of the most popular places to enjoy a panoramic view of the city of Cusco and its surroundings. It is located in the neighborhood of San Blas, on the hill of San Cristobal, at an altitude of approximately 3,550 meters above sea level.
To reach the viewpoint, you can walk along a cobblestone path that winds up the hill. Once you reach the top, you can enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view of the city of Cusco, including the Plaza de Armas, the Cathedral and nearby churches.
What does the stone of the 12 angles mean?
The Stone of the 12 Angles is a famous stone found on a wall in the historic center of Cusco. The stone is known for its precision carving and for fitting perfectly with the other stones in the wall.
The Stone of the 12 Angles is considered an impressive example of Inca construction technique and is a symbol of the cultural and historical heritage of the region. The stone is believed to date back to the 15th century and was carved during the reign of the Inca emperor Pachacutec.
To enter Machu Picchu, it is necessary to have an entrance or entrance ticket that can be purchased online or in the city of Cusco.
Entrance is included in most tours to Machu Picchu, so visitors do not have to worry about obtaining the entrance ticket on their own. However, if you decide to visit Machu Picchu on your own, you should obtain the entrance ticket in advance to avoid problems. It is important to keep in mind that the daily capacity of visitors is limited, so it is recommended to make a reservation in advance, especially during the high season months.
Is it possible to climb the Huayna Picchu mountain during the visit to Machu Picchu?
Yes, it is possible to climb Huayna Picchu Mountain during the visit to Machu Picchu, but a separate entrance ticket is required and must be purchased in advance, as the number of visitors allowed per day is limited and they sell out quickly. The hike is steep and demanding, but the views from the top are breathtaking and well worth it. There is also an alternative option of climbing Machu Picchu Mountain, which also requires a separate ticket and offers equally impressive views of the Inca citadel.
Can I bring food and drinks to Machu Picchu?
No food or beverages are allowed into Machu Picchu, except water in small, uncapped bottles. There is also a designated area for eating and drinking near the entrance to the archaeological site. It is recommended to bring snacks and enough water for the hike to Machu Picchu, but they should be left before entering the site.
What is Aguas Calientes like?
Aguas Calientes, also known as Machu Picchu Pueblo, is a small town located in the Urubamba River valley near Machu Picchu. It is the starting point for most visitors who want to visit Machu Picchu, as it is where the train stations and access to the buses that take visitors to the entrance of Machu Picchu are located.
Aguas Calientes has a vibrant tourist atmosphere and is a fairly small town. There are a variety of hotels, restaurants, cafes, bars, souvenir stores and travel agencies to cater to visitors. Due to its location in a mountainous area, the city has many stairs and steep streets, but also offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding area.
In addition to serving as a base for visitors to Machu Picchu, Aguas Calientes has some tourist attractions of its own, such as the hot springs that give the town its name, a small historic church and some nearby Inca ruins.
