How difficult is the Palcoyoc mountain trek?

The Palcoyo mountain trek is a trek that is located in the Cusco region, and although it is not as demanding as some of the other treks, it still requires a good physical condition to be able to do it.

The trek has a duration of approximately 3 hours of walking in total, and the maximum altitude reached is approximately 4,900 meters above sea level. It is important to keep in mind that the altitude can affect the ability of some people to make physical efforts, so it is recommended to have a good acclimatization before making the trek.

Is it necessary to acclimatize before visiting Cusco due to the altitude?

It is advisable to acclimatize before visiting Cusco due to the high altitude of the city. Cusco is located at an altitude of approximately 3,400 meters above sea level, which can cause soroche or altitude sickness in some people. Symptoms of altitude sickness can include headache, nausea, dizziness and shortness of breath.

To avoid altitude sickness, it is recommended to take a day or two to acclimatize before engaging in intense physical activities, such as walking or hiking. During this time, it is advisable to rest, stay hydrated, avoid consuming alcohol and heavy food, and drink coca tea, which is a natural remedy to alleviate the symptoms of soroche.

¿The route to Palcoyoc is easier than the Vinicunca mountain route?

The route to Palcoyoc is considered a moderate level hike, being less demanding than the Vinicunca Mountain hike. However, it is recommended to be in good physical shape and to have previously done high mountain treks, since the route presents a constant ascent and descent over irregular terrain and steep slopes.

How high is the mountain?

The Palcoyoc mountain is at an altitude of approximately 4,900 meters above sea level.

What is the valley of stones?

The Piedras valley is located near the Palcoyoc mountain. It is a formation of rocks eroded by the action of wind and rain, which have acquired a characteristic and peculiar shape over the years. The presence of these rocks amidst the surrounding vegetation creates a unique and fascinating landscape, which attracts many visitors and tourists to the area.
